Sheriff appoints Hedrick chief deputy Sheriff Randy Maxwell has appointed newly-elected sheriff Kenneth Hedrick as chief deputy for the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office.
The appointment is designed primarily to help Hedrick learn the business operations of the sheriff's office, Maxwell said.
Hedrick beat two other candidates for the sheriff's post two weeks ago. He'll replace Maxwell, who chose not to seek re-election.
Since taking the oath of office as sheriff in August 1990, Maxwell said he had never appointed a chief deputy until last week.
He said he wants insure a smooth transition between the old and the new. The appointment was made Wednesday, Oct. 26.
Maxwell's current term in office officially ends on Saturday, June 30, 2012, but he said the interim eight months can best be used to help Hedrick learn the details of the many aspects of running the Sheriff's Office.
"He's completely familiar with the criminal side of the law enforcement field," Maxwell said of Hedrick, "but there's so much more to the Sheriff's Office than that – it's a huge business too."
Hedrick, who has spent most of his adult life in law enforcement, is the former police chief of Ferriday and served as a Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries agent.
"I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity," Hedrick said of the appointment. "I really want to hit the ground running on July 1, and having the chance to learn so much from the people who are experts in their jobs is extraordinary. Not everyone has this kind of opportunity, and it truly benefits the entire community."For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
