Vidalia to enter lease with hotel next month

The Vidalia Town Council plans to enter into a lease agreement next month with the management of a new hotel to be located on the riverfront.

The Council voted during its regular meeting Tuesday night to pre-file a motion to adopt a resolution entering into a lease with Concordia Group LLC, the hotel management firm, in December.

Copeland said Wednesday that he could not identify the name of the national chain hotel due to legalities. He said the Riverfront Authority approved the lease at a recent meeting.

The hotel will be a 102-room operation, the mayor noted, and will be located on seven acres south of Promise Hospital.

"It's exciting because it will give us the opportunity to recruit larger conventions with two hotels on the riverfront," Copeland said.

Additionally, Copeland said talks are continuing with another firm concerning the construction of a hotel opposite the new recreation complex now under construction.

"We're also talking to a restaurant and all of this is due to the complex," Copeland said. "That's the effect it's having on potential business."
