Hunter killed in shooting incident
Early Monday morning, a Jonesville man was killed while hunting in Catahoula Parish.
The incident occurred around 5:50 a.m. on the Catahoula Wildlife Refuge. A hunter, identified as Boatner K. Smith, 52, of Jonesville, was hunting and shot at an object moving in the brush. Smith's shot struck the victim, identified as Rod Gordon, 63, of Jonesville in the upper left side. As a result, Gordon was killed instantly.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office was requested to investigate this incident at the request of the Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Department.
Smith is a correctional officer at the Catahoula Correctional Center, but is not a commissioned deputy.
The investigation remains ongoing. Upon completion of the investigation, the report will be turned over to the Catahoula Parish District Attorney's Office.
