Jury to adopt new budget next month

The Concordia Parish Police Jury will adopt its 2012 budget at the Dec. 12 regular meeting.

Jury President Melvin Ferrington said final figures are still being worked out but estimated that next year's budget should be similar to the current budget of about $5.9 million.

"We're trying to work out the numbers right now," Ferrington said. "It's not going to be a lot of difference from this year's budget."

The Jury's general fund budget this year is about $2 million.

Meanwhile, at its regular meeting Monday night, the Jury met in executive session for 45 minutes to discuss legal strategy.

Jurors also voted to pay $4,707.90 to Municipal Code to update the parish's Code of Ordinances.

According to Ferrington, the Jury was required to print in hard copy form each year its new or amended ordinances and then insert them in the Code of Ordinances book. He said printing the Jury's ordinances online at municode.com saves the Jury staff work time while also providing instant access to anyone wishing to research or look up a certain ordinance on-line.
