Police Jury qualifying may be Dec. 7-9 Candidates for Police Jury will likely be among those qualifying for office next month in anticipation of the March 24 municipal and party primary election.
The general election is set for April 21.
Parish Planner Oliver Schulz said Monday that he expects the Jury's reapportionment plan to be precleared by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) by next week.
"That will mean that they can move forward with their elections," Schulz said.
The election of nine jurors in Concordia, originally scheduled for this fall during the statewide gubernatorial election, was postponed because the Jury's redistricting plan was not submitted in time for the U.S. Department of Justice to review and approve, Schulz said.
Qualifying for municipal offices is scheduled for Dec. 7-9 in Vidalia, Ferriday and Clayton, according to Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber. Those offices will include mayor, chief of police and aldermen in Clayton and Vidalia, and mayor and aldermen in Ferriday.
Additionally, qualifying is also set at that time for Democratic State Central Committee, Republican State Central Committee, Democratic Parish Executive Committee and Republic Parish Executive Committee. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
