Services held for former chief Former Vidalia Police Chief Billy Hammers died Nov. 23 at Natchez Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. He was 60.
Hammers, who served as police chief of Vidalia from 1998 to 2008, was laid to rest Monday. He was on dialysis from kidney failure and died from a cardiac arrest.
"I had the privilege of working with Billy for 10 years," said Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland. "I really enjoyed working with him. He was a very efficient police chief. Billy never met a stranger. He was a people-person and just what we know as a 'good ol' boy.' He had an excellent rapport with people and was an extremely good police chief."For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
