Qualifying next week for muncipal, Police Jury races Qualifying is slated next week for Police Jury and municipal offices as well as political party committees.
Clerk of Court Clyde Ray Webber said qualifying will be held Dec. 7-9. Qualifying hours at the clerk's office will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 7-8, and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 9.
Webber said the fee to qualify for Police Jury as a Democrat or Republican is $230, while the cost is $115 for an independent.
The qualifying fee for a municipal office is $80 for a Republican or Democrat and $40 for an independent.
The primary election is slated for March 24 and the general election for April 21.
Municipal races will include mayor, chief of police and aldermen in Clayton and Vidalia, and mayor and aldermen in Ferriday.
Additionally, qualifying is also set for Democratic State Central Committee, Republican State Central Committee, Democratic Parish Executive Committee and Republic Parish Executive Committee.
Qualifying for nine Police Jury races is also on tap after the U.S. Department of Justice voiced no objection this month to the Jury's reapportionment plan, according to Parish Planner Oliver Schulz.
Police Jury elections in Concordia, originally scheduled for this fall during the statewide gubernatorial election, was postponed because the Jury's redistricting plan was not submitted in time for the DOJ to review and approve, Schulz said. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
