Concordia voters will be asked to renew a 25-mill tax next year for parish schools.

The School Board voted unanimously Thursday night to place the renewal on the April 21 ballot.

The millage generates $3.2 million yearly and is used for general operations, according to Business Manager Tom O'Neal. He said the present tax expires in December 2012.

In other action, Supt. Loretta Blankenstein announced the results of a parishwide telephone survey through the AlertNow messaging system on a proposed magnet school for Concordia.

Magnet schools focus on technology, health sciences, engineering and other specialties.

She said 955 residents participated in the survey and answered "yes" or "no" to five questions as follows:

--Have you ever heard anything about a magnet school? Yes, 324; No, 508.

-- Are you familiar with the magnet school concept? Yes, 193; No, 620.

-- Would you like to see a magnet school in Concordia Parish? Yes, 610; No, 128.

-- If transportation was provided, would you send your child to the parish magnet school even if this means your child would attend a new school? Yes, 513; No, 180.

-- Do you currently have at least one child in Pre-K through 5th grade? Yes, 479; No, 205.
