Ferriday under water boil order after water line breaks
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The Town of Ferriday is under a precautionary boil water advisory for the second time in two months because of a broken water line.

A main water line break at Maryland and 10th streets caused the water to be turned off twice Tuesday, with service being fully restored at 4:30 p.m.

The boil order will remain in effect until after the line is fixed and water samples can be tested and proven safe for consumption.

The precautionary boil water advisory is standard procedure for any time a water system loses pressure.

"It's more precaution than anything," said Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin. "We did not have a problem with the water, it was just a break. Anytime we have a water leak or stoppage the DHH requires us to have a boil water advisory.

"Some of the water lines were put down in the 1930s and age and weather are taking their effect. We even still have water valves that were supposed to have been cut off a long time ago that were not."

A water line break in late November near Ferriday Upper Elementary resulted in a boil advisory notice.

Under the advisory, all water used for drinking, brushing teeth, ice making, etc., needs to be brought to a "rolling boil" and then boiled for a full minute.
