Plans to promote Miss-Lou in works

The Miss-Lou Steering Committee, which is working to promote business and industry, will focus this year on the development of an external advertising campaign to promote the region.

"We're not looking at just an advertising campaign but also the development of a website that markets the entire area," says committee member Heather Malone, who is executive director of the Concordia Economic & Development District.

She said the plan may also include trips to conferences or conventions.

"The staff is coming up with a plan and budget to present to the steering committee's next meeting," Malone said.

She said the major issue in executing an advertising campaign is financial.

"We have to identify funding," Malone said. "We are considering asking the Concordia Parish Police Jury and the Adams County Board of Supervisors for seed money to put into this. We hate to go to the private sector at this point because they are constantly asked to donate."

She said discussions by the committee have also involved making the campaign a joint venture by the Concordia Economic & Development District and Natchez Inc.

"We also are looking at internal marketing by community collaboration and development," Malone said.

The Steering Committee works to find ways to spur economic growth, Malone said.
