DOTD assistance sought for parish
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
District 5A Police Jury member Jimmy Jernigan requested assistance from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development last week for work on three roads.

Jernigan made the request at a meeting of the Joint Highway Priority Construction Committee in Winnsboro on Feb. 1. The committee is holding a series of public hearings across the state to get citizen input on the development of Louisiana's highway priority program.

Jernigan told officials that Hwy. 565 from Lismore to Hwy. 129 needs work, while two parish roads "need turnarounds." He said Bowie Road and Beard Road at Wildsville no longer have direct assess to Hwy. 84 due to four-laning work by DOTD.

"An ambulance had to back out of Bowie Road on a recent call because it couldn't turn around since the road is so narrow," Jernigan said. He said mail delivery to homes on both Bowie and Beard roads are prohibited because "there's no turnaround."

Jernigan said DOTD said it would look into the requests.
