The Town of Vidalia voted Tuesday to enter into a cooperative agreement with the Concordia Communications District giving the Vidalia Police Department the use of eight radio units.

According to Vernon Stevens, secretary/treasurer of the Concordia Communications District, the agreement with the town of Vidalia and other local law enforcement agencies is "established to operate an emergency communication network within the parish."

"It speeds response time and they are better able to handle emergency situations," he said.

The Town of Ferriday and the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office will also be given radios under the same agreement.

After some discussion, the issuance of an occupational license to JB's Palace, 901 Carter St., did not receive a second on the motion given by Alderman Tron McCoy.

The owner, Jessie Banks Jr., who was present at the meeting, said he plans to operate a pool hall/bar and stated that he has gone through the proper channels for state licensing and approval from the state Fire Marshall.
