State auditors may be "wrapping up" an investigation into the Town of Ridgecrest's finances, Mayor Dwayne Sikes said Tuesday.

Sikes said representatives from the Legislative Auditor's Office returned to town hall Friday, Feb. 17, after a three week absence. Auditors previously seized two computers.

"They're still looking at water bills and finances back to 2008," Sikes said. He said he has not been informed what auditors have discovered.

"They're haven't told us anything," he said.

The Legislative Auditor launched a probe into the town's financial situation in December after an audit report from the town's CPA revealed that up to $25,000 in town money could not be accounted for. Since that time, Sikes said that expenditures and fund transfers not authorized by the town council have been discovered.
