Ferriday's 2011 reapportionment plan has been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), according to Parish Planner Oliver Schulz of West Monroe.

DOJ notified Schulz in a letter dated Feb. 15 that the "Attorney General does not interpose any objection" to the plan.

According to census figures, Ferriday's population totals 3,511. Of that number, 2,989 (83.4 percent) are black, 541 (15.41 percent) are white and 42 (1.19 percent) are listed as "other."
