Ferriday falls to Riverside
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Riverside Academy of Reserve is the No. 2 seed in Class 2A. You would have a hard time convincing Ferriday head coach James Davis that they should not be No. 1 after the Trojans fell to the Rebels 115-43 in a first round playoff contest Monday in Reserve.

As a matter of fact, Riverside defeated No. 1 rated John Curtis two out of the three times the two teams played his season.

"Whoever beats them is going to have to be great," Davis said.

Riverside is led by Ricardo Gathers, who recently committed to Baylor after de-committing from St. John.

Gathers scored 24 points against Ferriday.

"He is the real deal," Davis said.

Riverside led Ferriday 32-11 after one period and 64-21 at halftime.

Donald Thomas Jr. led Riverside with a game-high 33 points.

"Thomas is a good hand, as well," Davis said. "And he didn't even play the entire game."

Riverside led 32-11 after one period and 64-21 at halftime.

Richard Jefferson led Ferriday with 16 points and Charles Chandler added 11 points.

Ferriday finishes its season at 10-14.

"I told the kids after the game that it was a good experience, especially for the seniors who have never been to the playoffs," Davis said. "And it gave the underclassmen an idea of what they need to do to get better. The first thing they said is that they know they have to get on the weights and do this and that. It's a process and sometimes it takes a while. We just have to build off of this season."

Riverside now takes on the winner of Tuesday night's Redemptorist-Oakdale contest.

Ferriday went into the tournament seeded No. 31. District foe Jonesboro-Hodge is seeded No. 8
