Lady VIkings falls to Neville
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High's softball team fell to Neville 11-2 and 11-0 in their season-opener Monday at Vidalia.

Lady Tiger pitcher Megan Lively struck out nine of the first Lady Viking batters she faced in the first game, allowing a walk to Taylor Rodgers in the second inning.

Neville scored one run in the first inning on a fielder's choice and two straight singles.

Lively finished with 20 strikeouts (two reached on passed balls) and walked five.

Neville coach Jeff Tannehill said Lively plays summer softball in California and has several California and Pac 12 teams looking at her.

Nevlle added two runs in the third on a bunt single, fielding error and bloop single.

Vidalia scored two runs keyed by singles from Taylor Rodgers and Kennedy Beard.

"We haven't seen a live arm up to that game," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "We just did not hit the ball very well and made some errors. That seems to be a mental thing carrying over from last year. We would make a mistake and then blow up after that."

In the second contest, Neville's Abby Valerie allowed two hits as Beard singled to right field and Rodgers lined a single up the middle.

Laura Perrilloux allowed only three hits in the second contest. Perrilloux also pitched the first game.

"I felt like our pitchers threw real well," Tannehill said. "We've been trying to work with Megan on her walks, but she throws so hard that you are going to have that. I thought Vidalia played well even though the score may not show it. They are fundamentally sound and Coach Parnham does a good job with them."

Vidalia visits Franklin Parish on Thursday.

"We know what we need to work on," Parnham said. "We have to get better quick because we have several tough games coming up. We were able to play a number of freshmen and get them some experience and that will help us down the road."
