Maxwell looks back on career as sheriff
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Sheriff Randy Maxwell did not blink an eye when asked if there is one incident he remembers the most over his 22 years as sheriff of Concordia Parish.

"No doubt, the case we worked in Woodland," Maxwell said following his speech to the Ferriday Rotary Club Thursday.

Maxwell was referring to teenager Connor Wood, who was convicted of shooting his parents and a friend on April 30, 2008 in his home at 119 Shady Lane in Ferriday. Wood was 15 at the time of the murders.

"That was the worst thing I ever had to deal with," Maxwell said. "I cannot comprehend anything like that happening. It was very difficult to work. I'll never forget walking in that house and seeing a deer head on the wall, an LSU picture and pictures of the family. It was a typical house. It could have been anybody's house. The kid had a great life and to go so far off the rim just blows my mind."

Wood is serving three consecutive life sentences at Angola Prison.
