BESE approves 2013 open day for charter school

While organizers of the Delta Charter School in Ferriday were hoping to open in August, they are still rejoicing after the Board of Elementary & Secondary Education (BESE) granted unconditionally for the school to open in 2013.

"This is definitely a positive thing," said Delta Charter School president Michael Burley. "We may have lost the battle, but we won the war. Everybody is very excited. The positive side is that we can still pursue grants and this gives us the ability to pursue things and build us a nest egg."

Burley said BESE approved Delta Charter School's Director and Director of Curriculum. He said the school's directors will be revealed in the near future.

"They are still working out some things in their school district and we want to respect their privacy."
