Former state trooper gets nine years

Former State Trooper Jay Sandifer of Vidalia was sentenced March 8 to nine years in federal prison and five years supervised release for the receipt of child pornography.

The case was heard in U.S. District Judge Dee Drell's court in Alexandria.

Sandifer pled guilty in October to receipt of child pornography. U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley said the charge was based on hundreds of images of child pornography that were found on Sandifer's work-issued laptop computer.

Sandifer was indicted in September 2010.
