Grand Jury to hear Ridgecrest case District Attorney Brad Burget said an investigation into the Town of Ridgecrest's finances will be presented to the upcoming session of the Grand Jury.
Burget said Monday the Legislative Auditor's office has concluded an investigation into the matter.
"Based on their investigation, some $40,000 remains unaccounted for," Burget said.
He said former Ridgecrest mayor Kevin Graham and former town clerk Dana DeLaughter were less than cooperative during the investigation.
"They were both given the opportunity to give statements to investigators, and they both declined," Burget said. "We'll present the case to the Grand Jury in the very near future."
Burget thanked the Legislative Auditor's office for assisting in the investigation: "Those guys worked diligently to get to bottom of this."
"We're basically through with our work, but not completely through," Allen Brown, Assistant Legislative Auditor, said Tuesday.
Graham resigned his post as Ridgecrest mayor in November after the allegations surfaced and DeLaughter was terminated by the Ridgecrest Town Council in January.
State auditors arrived at Ridgecrest Town Hall in December to begin their investigation and have been back several times. They seized two town computers. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
