McGlothlin: No money for Davis
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin told board members Tuesday that the town does not have the money to pay Sammy Davis Jr.

"We have bills to pay and our health insurance is going up," McGlothin said. "It's going to increase $56,000 and I don't know how we are going to handle that. We may have to ask our employees to pay stipends to help out like the police jury and City of Vidalia do. And I don't see insurance going down."

Alderman Elijah "Stepper" Banks requested an update on Davis.

Davis, a former Ferriday mayor who was charged in 1990 on three counts of malfeasance in office and one count of injuring public records.

The state supreme court later overturned the conviction on a technicality.

The board previously voted to pay the fees in four equal payments of $32,250 anually over a four-year period commencing on August 1, 2011.
