Football teams gearing up
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High will hold its spring football game on May 17 at 6 p.m. at Melz Field in Ferriday, while Vidalia has scheduled their Blue-White intrasquad game for May 19 in Dee Faircloth Viking Stadium.

No time has been set for the Vidalia game.

The Louisiana High School Athletic Association recently ruled that state public schools cannot play spring games against other schools.

Ferriday second-year head football coach Richard Oliver handed out equipment to his players this week.

"We've got about 35-to-40 players out," Oliver said. "We have to find another quarterback because we lost a good one last year (Richard Jefferson).

We also lost some key guys on the line. We should be strong at linebacker has all of those guys are back. We had a number of guys get their feet wet last year."

Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham is preparing for spring practice and bringing back the tradition Blue-White spring game.

"We're excited about getting back out there and expecting a much better year."

Ferriday will compete in the Vidalia Jamboree on August 25.

The Trojans will open their season on August 31 at home against Natchez High. Vidalia will travel to Jonesville to face Block in their opener.
