Story Archives: Broadband topic at Vidalia meeting

Broadband topic at Vidalia meeting
by Tracey Bruce - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
A South Carolina consultant told Vidalia alderman Tuesday night about how to make the town "well connected."

Dr. Ed Duffy, who has worked on various broadband projects including Bossier City, is in town this week to assess the town's broadband initiative.

"You would be able to bring together a whole variety of assets within a community," said Duffy. "The second part of this would be the ability to connect the rest of the world with Vidalia."

Duffy said the area that is strongest for Vidalia is dealing with economic development.

But he said the use of broadband would also be a cost saving measure in utility department use and response time for repairs.

"This connection will make Vidalia far more attractive to a variety of folks meaning more jobs and keeping young people here who might be thinking of going somewhere else," he said.

"We think we've got a great project — something this whole area will benefit by," said Mayor Hyram Copeland.
