Chapman fifth at State

Monterey sophomore Caleb Chapman placed fifth in the discus throw in the Class B State Track Meet at LSU in Baton Rouge Friday.

Chapman tossed the discus 109 feet, 5 inches to place fifth.

Michael Campbell of Grand Lake won the discus with a toss of 132 feet, 6 inces.

Ellen Bairnsfather, participating in her final sports competition at Monterey, placed seventh in the 100-meter dash, running a time of 13.19, 6/10th of a second behind Mariah Lutrick of Quitman.

Kimerly Walker of Simmsboro won the event with a time of 12.46.

In the girls 100-hurdles, freshman Jody Duncan of Monterey placed seventh with a time of 18.28.

Laticia Watson tied the Class B state record with a time of 15.94 to win the race. Jill Singletary of Lacassine High ran that same time in 2000.

Monterey junior Elliot Britt placed eighth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:08.79.

Michael Primeaux of Midland won the event with a time of 4:34.57.

Choudrant won the team title with 59.50 points. Anacoco was second at 47, while Weston placed third at 46. Bell City was fourth with 43 oints, followed by Midland with 41 points.

Zwolle, Glenmora and Simsboro tied for sixth place with 32 points each.
