Brooking to compete Vidalia native Greg Brooking and Bill Byrne of Natchez will represent Mississippi in the 7th Annual Governors Cup Matches at Old Waverly Golf Club in West Point, Ms.
The Four-Ball Matches begin Friday.
Brooking will partner with Ricky Sims on Friday afternoon.
Brooking and Byrne will be teamed up against Stan Lee of Heber Springs, Ar., and Ronnie Johnson of Hot Springs, the USGA Senior Amateur Champions of 2008, while Brooking and Sims will go against Louis Lee and Stan Lee, the 2010 USGA Senior Amateur Champions.
Brooking is the golf pro at Duncan Park in Natchez..
Mississippi has won the last two years, while Arkansas had a three-year winning streak prior to that.
When the Mid-South Cup Matches, an annual competition between six states – Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas - disbanded after nearly 30 years in 2005, the Arkansas State Golf Association and Mississippi Golf Association wanted to continue an annual competition between the top mid-amateurs and seniors in each state, which turned into the Governors Cup. |
