Monterey hands out softball awards

Monterey senior Ellen Bairnsfather was named District 4B Most Valuable Player, while Lady Wolf head coach Hazel Brallier earned Coach of the Year in the district.

Bairnsfather who signed a softball scholarship with LSU-Alexandria, batted .366, scored 26 runs, totaled five home runs and stole 24 bases.

She also went 6-6 on the mound, finishing with a 1.18 earned run average, striking out 83 and walking 24.

Joining Bairnsfather on the first team are, sophomore pitcher Paige Bryan, junior infielder Bailey New, sophomore infielder Karlee Woodruff and junior outfielder Ashlea Blake.

Named to the second team were junior infielder Kennedy Poole, sophomore infielder Ashlee Willson, sophomore outfielder Baler Smith and freshman outfielder Jodee Duncan.

Monterey's softball team also handed out its awards for 2012.

Bairnsfather was named Team MVP, won the Pitching Award, Most Steals Award, .300 Hitting Award and Captain Award.

Woodruff won Highest On Base Percentage. Slugger Award, Most RBIs, 1st Cycle and .400 Hitting Club.

Bailey New won Most Assists, .300 Hitting Club and Captain Award.

Blake won Most Improved.

Bryan won Pitching Award and .300 Hitting Club. Poole won Sacrifice Bunt Award and Golden Glove Award.

Smith won the Rookie Award.
