Story Archives: Honey Badger, A.J. start early

Honey Badger, A.J. start early
by Jake Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
It's not even July yet, and LSU's Tyrann Mathieu and Alabama's A.J. McCarron are already going at it.

Earlier this week on Twitter, Mathieu wrote "try throwing a corner route or a cross country on me this year!!! i'll be waiting!!!"

Following that tweet, Mathieu was bombarded with tweets by the Alabama faithful reminding him about A.J. McCarron's 67-percent completion percentage in the 2012 BCS National Championship game in which McCarron threw Mathieu's way often.

And then McCarron retweeted an Alabama fan with the user name @titsyeah that tweeted back at Mathieu. The tweet read, "@TM7_Era @10AJMcCarron said that will be easy, again."

Mathieu shortly fired back at McCarron tweeting, "everybody have a good game every now and then try having a great season back 2 back 2 BACK! DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIP NOT YOU."

McCarron answered: "@TM7_Era Ur right the TEAM.. That's how we play as a TEAM.. We stick together through our losses and wins."

Then Mathieu ended the conversation by tweeting, "you have 1,THE school has 14! you play your part well thanks to great coaching! but anyways we'll talk nov 3rd!"

Les Miles must have seen Mathieu's tweets and asked him to remove them because they are no longer on his Twitter page. You would think Nick Saban would have had McCarron remove the tweets before Miles had Mathieu take 'em down.

Regardless, this back-and-forth banter between Mathieu and McCarron only proves that the annual showdown between Alabama and LSU is getting more personal and becoming one of college football's best. And you better believe these players know it.

With Bobby Petrino leaving Arkansas, the SEC West should once again come down to Alabama and LSU, and their epic encounter on Nov. 3 couldn't be more massive. Following the trash talking, McCarron tweeted at teammates and fans saying to keep quiet and let this fuel them for this season.

Mathieu on the other hand took a different route after was named an early two-point favorite over the Crimson Tide. He reminded the Twitter universe about what it means to have home field advantage in Tiger Stadium.

"highly favored in DEATH VALLEY!"

Why does Fall have to be so far away?
