220 students apply for magnet school The Concordia Parish School Board received 220 applications for 120 classroom slots at the Ridgecrest Magnet School, scheduled to open in August.
The new school, to be housed in the facilities that previously housed Ridgecrest Elementary, will focus on math, science and technology and include grades kindergarten through 5th with 20 students per grade.
Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Paul Nelson said letters were mailed to the parents of all applicants last week informing them of the result of the lottery for enrollment.
"We mailed a letter to everybody who applied on Thursday, June 14," Nelson said.
Nelson said parents were informed one of three things:
-- That their child was selected to participate in the school and asked to return a card accepting or declining the selection.
-- That their child was not selected but has been placed on a waiting list.
-- That one of their children was selected but others were not but that their names would be placed on a sibling waiting list for possible future enrollment.
"Right now we're just waiting to see how parents respond to the letters," he said. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
