Speed, inattention cited in fatal boat accident
posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
The boat accident that claimed the life of two men earlier this month appears to be as a result of speeding at 60 miles per hour and inattention, according to Sgt. James Parish of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries.

Vidalia Junior High teacher and coach Bruce Pickle, 50, of Lake St. John and his cousin, Larry Allen, 52, of Pearl, Miss., were killed when the bass boat in which they were riding crashed into a pier on Lake St. John.

Search and rescue teams with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries and the Concordia Parish Sheriff's Office, with assistance from other agencies and companies, recovered the bodies of both men.

The accident occurred shortly after midnight on Saturday, June 16.

"It appears to me they weren't paying attention and were driving too fast," Parish said. "The fact there were no eyewitnesses makes it like putting a puzzle together."
