Police Jury seeking DOTD drainage grant The Concordia Parish Police Jury voted Monday night to seek a $3.5 million grant for a gravity flow structure, box culvert and weir to improve drainage.
The work is one of six projects developed by the Concordia Parish Drainage Committee designed to enhance drainage parishwide.
Of the six projects defined, the committee recommended that jurors begin with the project that includes the installation of a gravity flow structure between Brushly Bayou and the Tensas River, the removal of existing culverts and installation of a larger box culvert on the Luke Martin Road and installation of a weir in Caney Bayou on Hwy. 84.
Donna Remides, grant writer for the parish, said funding is being sought from the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development's Statewide Flood Control Project.
After reviewing pre-applications for the six projects, DOTD recommended that one of the six be given priority for funding: "In reviewing the pre-application, it appears the Police Jury is proposing multiple projects through the area. It is suggested the Police Jury divide the pre-application into separate individual projects and submit the pre-applications accordingly. Please be aware if multiple applications are submitted they will be competing against themselves for funding; therefore, it is recommended the Police Jury submit the projects with the highest priority."
Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said he agreed with the drainage committee's recommendation. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
