Hampton indicted; 'no true bill' on Mayes, Davis The parish Grand Jury today indicted a Ferriday man -- J.C. Hampton -- for aggravated burglary, aggravated rape, attempted first degree murder and two counts of armed robbery.
Meanwhile, in separate cases, the panel chose not to indict two other men -- Morris Brandon Davis and Anthony Mayes.
Hampton of Ferriday, who was released from prison in 2008 for forcible rape, was charged in March following an incident on Eighth Street in Ferriday. Hampton was booked for stabbing a woman before raping the stabbing victim's daughter and stealing her cell phone, according to police.
In another case, the Grand Jury returned a "no true bill" against Anthony Mayes in the death of Robert "Batman" Franklin, who died April 7 at Rapides General Hospital in Alexandria after being shot on March 23 in Ferriday.
According to Ferriday police reports, Franklin was shot by Mayes on Burns Alley between Sixth and Seventh Streets following a dispute between the two men.
The Grand Jury also returned a "no true bill" in the case of Morris Brandon Davis, 38, 128 Willow Dr., Ridgecrest, who was charged in December 2011 with negligent homicide in the death of one-year-old Anthony B. Atkins. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
