Vidalia adopts $32.8 million budget The Vidalia Town Council adopted a $32.8 million budget for its 2012-13 fiscal year last week, which includes no new capital projects and no pay raises for employees.
City Manager Ken Walker said revenue could increase over the fiscal year -- which runs from July 1 to June 30 -- if more grants are obtained.
"We're going after them," he said.
Walker said the town's 175 fulltime employees will not see an increase in pay this fiscal year.
"This is the second year that we haven't been able to provide raises," he said. "It's simply not prudent at this time for the town to do so. We're trying to hold everything to a bare minimum and still provide the same services."
He said all city department's -- operations, general fund, utility and riverfront -- are funded at the same level this fiscal year as last.
Walker said the town has recovered "a little over a million" of the $2 million expense incurred during the 2011 Mississippi River flood.
One continuing capital outlay project underway in town is the municipal complex, a $6.5 million project.
"Most of the expense is infrastructure," he said. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
