Vidalia property sale approved The sale of a 144-acre tract of city land to a developer was approved Tuesday night at the monthly meeting of the Vidalia Town Council.
The alderman voted to sell the property, located off of Martin Luther King Drive, at a market value of $3,600 per acre with stipulations that the property be used for residential development only.
According to City Manager Ken Walker, REI Development of Baton Rouge plans to build apartments initially and market rate single family dwellings in the future.
The alderman also approved the hiring of seven firemen that have completed probationary periods. One of the firemen was hired as a replacement while the other hires will help staff the fire department substation on John Dale Drive.
Fire Chief Jack Langston said the almost all are firefighter II certified and have been trained at the department's training facility. He noted that the in-house training has saved the city approximately $5,000 per employee. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
