Ferriday mayor says meeting with USDA productive Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen said work is moving forward on the town's water project and that he has completed a restructuring of the office staff at town hall.
He also said that the town has been taken off the non-compliance list by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor.
Allen said he had a productive meeting with USDA officials in Alexandria on Tuesday where they discussed the town's water project that includes the installation of meters, construction of water wells and plant construction.
The project is being financed through a $6 million grant and $1.3 million loan from USDA.
"We have a list of conditions that we have to complete by July 26," Allen said. "We'll meet all of this and the project is moving forward."
He said JCP Management will continue to operate as the manager -- or third party operator -- of the water plant.
"Mostly, what we're working on now for USDA is housekeeping work," Allen said.
Meanwhile, Allen, who took office on July 1, said he has reduced the staff at town hall.
"I had to restructure the office and brought in five clerical people temporarily to get things organized," Allen said. "We have a better understanding now where we are and where we're going."
He said the town hall staff has been cut from eight to two.For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
