Vidalia 13-14 win state The Vidalia 14-under softball team went 3-0 at the Little League State Tournament in Winnfield to capture the state title.
Vidalia defeated Jonesboro in its opening game before upending Avoyelles American. Vidalia defeated the Avoyelles Americans 13-12 to capture the championship.
"Everything just came together for us," said Vidalia coach Donald Bertleson. "The girls did a great job."
Vidalia will now compete in the Little League Regional Tournament in Santa Fe, N.M. beginning August 3.
Vidalia will be one of seven teams in the tournament, with the winner advancing to the Little League World Series in the state of Washington.
"The quarterfinals on will be broadcast on ESPN," Bertleson said. 'That would be a once-in-a-lifetime thing for these girls."
Tatum Turner doubled and singled twice in the championship game, while Cassie Gonzalez and Katelynn Bertelson both singled twice. Tatum Turner added a double.
Gonzalez picked up the win.
The Vidalia 14-under team will be holding fund-raisers to support their trip to New Mexico.
In the 11-12 state tournament at VIdalia last week, the Vidalia Nationals defeated the Vidalia Americans 18-1 to advance to the finals.
Katlyn McCarver picked up the win and singled twice for Vidalia.
Darby Beach singled twice. Emily Rasco and Leah Havard both doubled.
The Nationals fell to Shreveport 6-2 in the championship game.
McCafrver doubled for the Nationals.
The Vidalia 7-8 Machine-Pitch team defatted Evangeline 17-11 to advance to the finals as Lexi Maynard homered and singled twice.
Casey LaRue had three hits, while Anna Pole, MaKayla Morace, Becca Cowan, Tiara, Hannah Nunnery, Heidi Zimerman, Cheyanne Morace and Tionna Morales had two hits each.
Morace homered and singled three times. LaRue added two doubles. Caroline Sutherland and Cheyenne Morace singled twice. Maynard homered, while Maynard tripled.
Vidalia lost to Shreveport 25-23 in the finals. |
