Ridgecrest fires town clerk
The Ridgecrest Town Council on a 4-0 vote fired town clerk Cyndie Dillon during a special meeting Thursday night.
Mayor Dwayne Sikes said Dillon was fired for insubordination.
"She called a resident a liar in front of everybody at a special meeting (in July) and we felt that was unbecoming of a town clerk," Sikes said. He said Dillon was also asked "to be quiet three times at the meeting. She is suppose to take notes and not speak unless she's asked about something."
Supporting the termination were aldermen Robert Maples, Jamie Harrison, Wanda Smith and Courtney Thompson. Cindy Halford did not attend.
Shannon Beatty, a former town clerk in Ferriday, was named town clerk on a six-month trial basis, Sikes said.
Cyndie Dillon said Tuesday she regrets calling a town resident a liar during that special meeting in July.
"I apologize for my choice of words," she said.
She said when she was asked to be quiet at the meeting she was attempting to clarify some financial matters.
"I was just trying to make sure the Council knew what happened concerning CDs (certificates of deposit), restricted funds and unrestricted funds," she said. "We just wanted everyone to understand."
She also said she felt her termination was due in part to an incident at the water plant concerning her husband, Paul Dillon, who was also recently fired for insubordination.
Sikes previously said he and Paul Dillon had a disagreement when he asked Dillon to train a new employee to assist at the water plant and perform other duties for the town. Sikes said he told Dillon to leave the plant when Dillon refused to train the employee.
Cyndie Dillon said "Paul was told to leave the water plant while he was working on the valves. I called the aldermen and I called the Louisiana Rural Water Association per Paul's request when he was forced to leave the plant. Paul loves Ridgecrest and he would never do anything to hurt the town."
