Ferriday seeks debt settlement
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday Mayor Gene Allen said he will ask Risk Management, Inc., -- which provides Workers' compensation -- to accept payment of 10 cents on the dollar to settle an $884,000 debt.

Allen said at the Council's regular meeting Tuesday night that the town must have Workers' comp in order to purchase new water meters.

"I am going to make that offer to pay $84,000, which I believe they will take," Allen said. "Otherwise, we are not going to be able to pay them."

Risk Management, Inc. is a subsidiary of the Louisiana Municipal Association and functions as the service agent for the Louisiana Municipal Association inter-local risk pools.

"Workman's comp is the only thing left for us to get this water project completed," Allen said, referring to the installation of new water meters.

Allen also told the board that Coastal Trucking is leasing the old Ferriday Town Hall on Texas Street and will use sites in town to train truck drivers.

James Skipper, Ferriday Special Projects Manager, said applications can be picked up at the current Ferriday Town Hall.

Skipper said the school enrolls students in a full-time four-week program and a part-time eight-weekend program to allow students to receive their commercial driver's license.
