Police Jury approves garbage disposal contract

The Concordia Parish Police Jury approved a five-year garbage disposal contract with Waste Connections of Louisiana during its regular meeting Monday night.

The contract will begin on January 1, 2013, and totals $37,500 per month, seven percent less than the present contract of $37,921.87 per month. Waste Connections will received $7.50 per household for up to 5,000 households.

Police juror Joe Parker Jr., chairman of the Solid Waste Committee, made the recommendation that the Jury approve the contract.

In May, the Jury unanimously approved a contract to transfer parishwide garbage collection to Waste Connections, which operates the White Oaks Landfill in Monroe. Earlier this year, the company purchased Diamond Disposal, owned by John Bunning, which held the parish contract for garbage disposal since the mid 1990s.
