Ferriday visits Natchez
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Ferriday High head coach Cleothis Cumings knows the fact Natchez High has two official games under its belts give the Bulldogs a big advantage. But he is not conceding anything.

"At some point you have to lock and load and get after it," Cummings said. "We still have to go out and perform to the best of our ability and do what we are supposed to do."

The game at Natchez High has been moved to Saturday at 7:30 p.m.because of the weather conditions.

The contest will be the first official game for Cummings as head coach at Ferriday.

No Ferriday team has ever beaten Natchez, although the contests have been competitive.

The Trojans played Vidalia to a 0-0 tie in the Vidalia Jamboree Saturday.

"Natchez has a very athletic team," Cummings said. "We have to go out and be competitive. We're still trying to get some guys in the rotation at offensive line to give some guys a breather."

Natchez High fell to a talented Wilkinson County football team 24-22 before defeating Jefferson County 14-9.

"Any time we play Ferriday it's a team that is physical, fast and tough," said Natchez coach Lance Reed. "We're looking forward to facing the same type team this year."

Reed said the goal is to continue improving by district time.

"We're still trying to put the pieces together," he said. "It's a trial and error thing and we want to make sure it all comes together."

Reed said he is also watching the weather.

"The rain hampers your preparation because you are limited to space inside of the gymnasium," Cummings said. "But we'll still get some work in."
