Block High made it three in a row over Vidalia, defeating the Vikings 24-6 Saturday in Jonesville.

"We just made too many mistakes, especially in the first half," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "In the second half, we had some scoring opportunities in the red zone, but missed assignments kept us from taking advantage of them. But I was proud of the effort."

All the scoring took place in the first half.

"We still have a lot of things to work on," said Block coach Benny Vault Jr. "We had first-game conditioning problems and the humidity got to us. We were gassed before the game started. But our young guys got a game under their belts

The Vikings actually got on the board first as Vidalia quarterback Michael Whitley escaped being sacked before throwing to Trashone Mays 15 yards for the score.

The conversion failed, leaving Vidalia with a 6-0 lead with 3:03 remaining in the first half.

Block got on the board on its next possession as Trevor Vault completed a 55-yard pass to Dorian Bowman. William Cummings added the conversion run for an 8-6 Bear lead.

Cummings extended Block's lead early in the second quarterwith a 7-yard run. Ken Colbert added the conversion run.

With 3:35 left in the first half, Colbert scored from one yard out. Ty Bell added the conversion run for a 24-6 Bear lead.

Neither team scored in the second half, although Vidalia made its way inside the 10-ayrd line for the second time on the night without coming away with a score.

"Our defense stepped up when they had to," Vault said. "But we didn't play as physical as I would have liked."

Vidalia travels to Delhi Charter Friday, while Block visits Ferriday.
