State working to collect Conner campaign debt The Louisiana Department of Justice has begun the process of collecting $2,116.87 in unpaid fines, late fees and interest owed by Justin Conner of Ferriday for not filing campaign finance disclosure reports during his unsuccessful bid for Clerk of Court in 2007.
The Louisiana Board of Ethics recently challenged Conner's candidacy for Justice of the Peace, District 1, due to the unpaid debt. Conner later withdrew from the race.
Laura Gerdes Colligan of the Public Information Division of the Department of Justice, which operates under the Attorney General's Office, reported Tuesday that Conner's account "has been placed with us and is going through the legal processes to ascertain assets."
The Department of Justice provides civil legal services for the state and its agencies, including debt collection.
On June 26, 2008, the Ethics Board ordered Conner to pay $1,560 in late fees "for the failure to timely file the required campaign finance disclosure reports."
On November 14, 2011, a judgment was signed in the 19th Judicial District in East Baton Rouge Parish in that amount plus legal interest and court costs of $556.87, upping the total amount due to $2,116.87.For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
