1086th returns from Afghanistan Members of the 1086th Transportation Company returned home Sunday after serving 10 months in Afghanistan.
The 1086th arrived in Afghanistan on October 31, 2011.
Sgt. Michael Jenkins completed his second deployment, having served previously in 2003.
"It was better this time because the conditions were much better," Jenkins said. "We actually had heat and air conditioning in our trucks."
But Jenkins said it was tough to adjust to new regulations.
"Before we were told what mission we had to run," he said. "This time there was a lot of rank involved. Every time we were involved in a fire fight we were investigated and had to make sure we did the right thing."
Jenkins said he has been spending time just riding around the area.
"It is great to just see Louisiana again," he said. "This is the first time to see grass in a while. And I am enjoying the little things like going to the refrigerator to get something to drink without worrying about getting shot at or getting into a bath tub without shoes."
Sgt. Thomas Tarver just completed his third deployment, having served in 2003 and 2010.
"This was different because it was more dangerous," Tarver said. "We were security, so every day we were in harm's way. You were always scared and you would hear stories and just thank God it was not you."
Tarver said he has spent time relaxing and visiting family. For the full story, subscribe to the The Concordia Sentinel's NEW E-Edition! |
