Vidalia hosts Bolton
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Vidalia High opens its home schedule as the Vikings welcome Bolton High Friday at 7 p.m.

The Vikings played their first three games on the road, falling to Block, Delhi Charter and Ferriday.

Vidalia and Bolton both bring 0-3 records into the contest. The Bears have fallen to Menard, Opelousas and Bossier.

"They have a good athlete at quarterback who makes them go," said Vidalia High head coach Gary Paul Parnham. "He is very athletic and we have to wrap him up when we are tackling him. It's going to take a big-time defensive effort."

Parnham said quarterback Michael Whitley, who injured his knee two weeks ago against Delhi Charter, is doubtful for Friday.

Bolton quarterback Reggie Wilson started his first game as a freshman last year against Vidalia, passing for 200 and rushing for 150 in a 28-0 win in Alexandria.

"Our starting quarterback got hurt the week before," said Bolton coach Reynolds Moore. "Reggie has struggled a bit this year, but we have to remember he is only a sophomore. Bossier was the most physical team we have played since I have been here (four years)."

Moore said he was impressed with how well Vidalia played against Ferriday in a 20-14 Trojan win.

"They lost their quarterback, who is an outstanding athlete and makes a huge difference for them, but they came out and blocked hard for him and all their backs run real hard," Moore said. "They look very much improved from last year. Ferriday may be down a bit, but they are still Ferriday. Vidalia took it to them and had every chance to win that game. Our schedule has not gotten any easier this week."

Bolton is a 4A school.
