Fifth West Nile case reported in Concordia

A fifth person has been diagnosed with West Nile virus in Concordia Parish, according to a report released Friday by state health officials.

The latest case involves the West Nile Fever, a milder viral infection. The previously reported cases involve one West Nile Fever, two West Nile neuroinvasive disease, the most serious type, and one asymptomatic in which the individual shows no symptoms.

State health officials confirmed on Friday 36 new West Nile virus cases and one newly reported death from the disease. Louisiana is experiencing its highest number of reported West Nile infections in recent years, with 251 cases and 11 deaths from the disease thus far in 2012.
