Cathedral edges Mt. Olive

Cathedral's Christian Jenkins scored on a 10-yard run with 2:24 remaining to give the Green Wave a 13-12 win over Mt. Olive in a key Region 4, District 7 contest Friday at Mt. Olive.

Cathedral scored first in the opening period as Jenkings, who finished with 209 carries on 34 carries, scored from one yard out. Dale Matheny added the point-after kick.

Mt. Olive pulled to within 7-6 at halftime after Zaniel Chapman returned a fumble 99 yards for a score. The conversion kick failed.

"They only had 30 yards of offense and one first down in the first half," said Cathedral coach Ron Rushing. "We should have been up 21-0 at halftime. We actually played well except for about four plays."

Mt. Olive went up 12-7 in the third period as Zarrick Jenkins scored on an 11-yard run. The pass for two failed.

Cathedral, 3-2 in region play and 4-2 overall, hosts top-rated Bogue Chitto Friday.

"They are a really good football team with skilled players all over the place," Rushing said. "We've had some success against them in recent years. Our kids are excited about playing them and we're going in with a lot of confidence."
