Avoyelles waiting on Vidalia Avoyelles High School is averaging 45 points a game this season, posting a 6-1 record.
But Mustang head coach Andy Boone is not satisfied.
"We're still leaving a lot of points on the board," Boone said. "We should have scored 70 points last week (46-20 win over Jena). But we made way too many mistakes. Our defense is playing a little better, but we need to be more consistent on offense and defense."
Vidalia visits Avoyelles Friday in a District 2-2A contest.
Avoyelles lost its District 3-3A opener to Caldwell 29-8 before defeating Jena. The Mustangs also have an 82-56 win over Jonesboro-Hodge.
Vidalia, 1-6, is 0-2 in 3-3A.
"They've played everybody tough and probably should have beaten Marksville (21-12 lost last week)," Boone said. "It's going to be tough getting our kids up for the game because of their record, but not for us coaches because we see how hard they fight."
Avoyelles is led by fullback Wesley Boone, Andy's son, and running backs Dravon Batiste (1,300 yards) and Jontrell White (800 yards).
"They are tough," said Vidalia coach Gary Paul Parnham. "They don't have long runs, they just march it down the field. We have to keep them from controlling the football. We have to have sustained drives."
Avoyelles does not punt and uses an onside kick after every score.
"If we just go three and out, it's going to be a long night," Parnham said. |
