Bidding set for old courthouse roof project

The Concordia Parish Police Jury is preparing to advertise for bids to reroof and waterproof the old courthouse in Vidalia.

Police Jury President Melvin Ferrington said approval to begin the bid process was received recently from the Louisiana Division of Administration, Office of Community Development, Disaster Recovery Unit.

"This has been a project we've been working on for years," Ferrington said. "Every time it looked as if we were ready to proceed, something came up on the state level. But now it looks like everything is on go."

Funding for the project is through a grant of $187,065 awarded the parish following hurricanes Gustav and Ike, Ferrington said.

The project will include installation of the new roof, the cleaning of walls, removal of mounted items, repair of painted metal surfaces and masonry, filling of structural cracks with epoxy, caulk and reflash, and installation of heavy-duty silicon coating.

Ferrington said bids will be opened on Nov. 26.

Architectural Associates of Monroe is handling the project for the Jury.
