Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland announced this week that the city has been awarded a $400,000 grant for the second phase of work at the Dr. William T. Polk City Park.
The grant is the second received by the town the U.S. Department of Interior's Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF).
"We're excited about getting this funding," Copeland said of the 50/50 matching federal grant. "We're be able to do a lot of in-kind work for our part of the grant."
Vidalia Grant Coordinator Teresa Dennis said funding for this second phase work will be used to improve the fishing pond with piers or a trail and the construction of a spray pond. She said work will also include completing the infrastructure for the bathrooms, showers and concession area at the tennis courts.
