Story Archives: Trinity clinches playoff spot

Trinity clinches playoff spot
by Joey Martin - posted E-mail Story E-mail Story | Print Story Print Story
Trinity Episcopal will be playing for the MAIS District 5-AA championship Friday when the Saints visit Brookhaven Academy.

Trinity defeated Columbia 20-14 Friday to improve to 2-0 in the district.

Trinity scored first on a 52-yard fumble return by Quinton Logan.

A Tanner Cage 69-yard TD run put the Saints up 13-7 at the end of the first quarter.

The winning score came on a 41-yard run by Cage with 5:32 remaining in the third quarter.

Jacob Sandrock had two interceptions.

"We made some plays down the stretch," said Trinity coach Josh Loy. "We struggled all night to get our defense off the field. But that was huge because it puts less pressure on us going into the Brookhaven game. We know we are in. But we still have our ultimate goal of winning district."

Brookhaven is 6-4 overall and 1-0 in district.

"They throw the ball better than anyone we have faced this year and they have a big running back," Loy said. "Their offense is extremely explosive. We need to sustain some drives. Both teams are going to put points on the board, we just have to eliminate our mistakes and turnovers."
