Lake Providence sophomore A.J. Bruce and senior Overton James combined for 453 rushing yards as the Panthers defeated Ferriday 44-12 Friday in Lake Providence.

"It was a tough night," said Ferriday coach Cleothis Cummings. "I thought we prepared well enough to win, but our guys just didn't show up."

The loss dropped Ferriday to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in District 2-AA.

James finished with 232 yards on 17 carries, while Bruce rushed for 221 yards from his quarterback position.

"Their quarterback and running back played well," Cummings said. "They ran the counter pretty much all night. They were like greased pigs in a pen and we were just trying to arm-tackle them."

Lake Providence led 8-0 at the end of the first quarter and 22-6 at halftime.

Ferriday hosts Sterlington Friday. The Panthers are 4-4 overall, but 3-0 in district.

"They are well-coached and have been playing really well the last three weeks," Cummings said. "We have to go out and give all we can. We have to establish our offense and keep the ball away from them."
